Jeff, A Biogarphy

Written January of 2005

Welcome to my bio. I'm glad someone is actually curious to see who I am. The short version of me is that I'm a fun, laid-back, piano playing, trumpet playing, physicist/programmer that currently resides in the city of Santa Rosa, California, nestled in the middle of wine country.

One good way to get a sense for who I am is through what I like (and don't like). Check out my "Top Ten" page to get a sense of who I really am.

Now the long answer:

I'd say my number one personality trait is a thirst for knowledge. I am never satisfied with knowing what I know. This thirst does not respect the boundaries of subject matter; I find myself to be fascinated with everything from science and math, to history, music, politics, psychology, and language. Unfortunately, there isn't enough time in my life to learn everything, so naturally I have put more emphasis on some subjects than others.

Since I was 5 years old, when I had memorized all the planets in order before even being able to read, I knew I wanted to study Astrophusics. I graduated from the College of Creative Studies at UC Santa Barbara with a degree in physics back in 2001. Since then I have worked as a physics software programmer at Optical Coating Labs, a lecturer at Sonoma State University, and plan on going back to school to get a Ph.D. in Astrophysics (Special and General Relativity is my strong suit). (Check out the science section of my website for more on me and science).

Another one of my many interests is computers. I have had an Apple computer in my house hold since before I can remember (back in the Apple II+ days), and have always spent years of my life becoming an expert user of every program I could get my hands on. I have also spent a lot of my time learning as many programming languages as I can. (My favorite of which are Ruby and Objective-C). (Check out my list of favorite programming languages, or the programming section for more information on me and programming).

Although Science and Technology take center stage, they only describe one facet of my life. I have been playing Piano since 1987, trumpet since 1999, and two and a half years of Javanese Gamelan in college. I enjoy playing jazz the most, and was the piano player in my high school jazz band. However I find that most of my leisure time with music is spent doing composition--it always has been. Currently I find myself using Logic Pro to do most of my composition work, and will soon start putting together soundtracks for my brother's student films. (For more on my music, check out the music section of my website, and check out my list of favorite artists.)

From here I could ramble on and on, but boring you isn't high on my list of things to do. If you want to know more about me, pop me an e-mail. New friends are fun to make!
